Clif Family Vineyard

In Summer 2011, we planted a small estate Zinfandel vineyard at Clif Family Farm. Zinfandel is one of Gary's favorite varietals so it made sense to plant Zinfandel at the Farm. The Farm is located on the back side of Howell Mountain on Ink Grade. The warm summers will create ideal growing conditions for Zinfandel. We look forward to harvesting our first grapes from this vineyard for our 2014 Gary's Improv Zinfandel.

Croquet Vineyard

Three acres of Howell Mountain Cabernet are planted at our Croquet Vineyard, located on the upper portion of Ink Grade road. The vineyard was planted in 2006 on Riparia Gloire rootstock. The days are much warmer throughout the growing season at this vineyard resulting in earlier ripening Cabernet Sauvignon that results in a deep and brooding wine. We harvested our first vintage from this vineyard in 2012.

Cold Springs Vineyard

Nestled high a top Howell Mountain, our Cold Springs vineyard produces the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The vineyard is farmed organically using practices that best care for the soil, the vines and the people who tend to them. We harvested our first vintage from these vines in 2010 and will be ready to release this wine in the spring of 2013.

The vineyard consists of two separate blocks with the lower block planted to 2.8 acres of clone 337 and 1.2 acres of clone 4. The upper block is planted to 1.5 acres of clone 7. Each clone has unique characteristics that contribute to the overall flavor and nuances of the wine. Clone 337 tends to provide the structure and backbone for our Cabernet while Clone 4 is a bit more robust adding great intensity to the wine. We like to think that it is clone 7 that brings out the wonderful opulence in the wine. Pina Vineyard Management has been farming vineyards in the Napa Valley for over 40 years. Our Cold Springs vineyard was developed by Pina Vineyard Management and continues to be farmed by them.
