'09 kit's killer cab
Vineyard
The fruit for our 2009 kit's killer cab Cabernet Sauvignon came from three Napa Valley vineyards. The cabernet from our Ink Grade neighbors - Clark Claudon and a small vineyard in Rutherford and the Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot from Yountville. The 2009 growing season was a favorite among Napa Valley winemakers. An early hot harvest season was followed by a month of coolness and ended with small warm spikes that made for evenly ripened fruit and ideal harvest conditions.
Winemaking
Blending the Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot results in a wine that is well balanced and robust. The wine was aged in 75% new French oak with medium toast for 22 months. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon that drinks beautifully now but will only continue to open up in the next 3-5 years.
Tasting Notes
This wine opens with lush aromas of blueberry, cinnamon and vanilla. The palate follows with flavors of raspberry, black currant and cocoa powder wrapped around smooth, velvety tannic structure.
